Job Posting: Associate Lawyer

Weiler Maloney Nelson is one of Northwestern Ontario’s most prominent full-service law firms. We are seeking a JUNIOR ASSOCIATE LAWYER with an interest in building a practice focused on LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT and GENERAL LITIGATION. The start date is flexible but the position is available immediately.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Drafting and reviewing legal documentation, including but not limited to employment agreements, workplace policies, court and administrative tribunal pleadings, factums, affidavits, settlement offers and minutes, notices, bills of costs etc.
  • Providing competent, clear and concise legal advice on various matters of law
  • Conducting initial in-person consultations and virtual consultations independently
  • Manage client matters under supervision of Senior Associates, Counsel or Partners, with the potential to assume complete carriage over a file
  • Conducting research and compiling both client-facing and internal memos
  • Other project work in accordance with interests and skills

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (Fall 2022 calls are eligible to apply and will be considered)
  • 0-2 years’ post-call experience
  • Experience or interest in legislation dealing with human rights, occupational health and safety, workplace safety and insurance, labour relations and employment standards
  • Familiarity with the litigation process including the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Adaptable and open-minded
  • Strong work ethic and practice management skills
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Superior communication and drafting skills and attention to detail
  • Technically proficient in Office software and major legal software
  • Able to work on-premise full time in a permanent position and legally eligible to work in Canada
