Responsibilities and Duties:

Students are given the opportunity to work on a variety of cases that fall within our areas of practice. We encourage students to take the initiative in seeking out work within the firm in practice areas of particular interest to them to ensure they have a well-rounded articling experience.

 Solicitors Practice: Corporate Commercial; Real Estate & Estate Planning

The work assigned to you may include:

  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Share and asset purchase transactions
  • Contract drafting
  • Corporate resolutions
  • Real estate transactions
  • Drafting wills and estate planning

 General Litigation: Commercial Litigation; Matrimonial & Employment

The work assigned to you will expose you to files at various stages of an action from commencement to resolution and may include:

  • Drafting pleadings
  • Preparing memoranda of law
  • Preparing chambers applications
  • Assisting lawyers at discoveries, mediations and trials
  • Conduct of small claims matters including trials
  • Professional development

Mentoring:
Our mentorship program ensures you have access to new and experienced professionals who are available to offer assistance, answer questions, or discuss general concerns. Frequent, informal contact is the most important part of the mentor-student relationship.

 Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completed Juris Doctorate or Bachelor of Laws Degree (three full years of law school; anticipated 2021 completion) at a Law Society of Ontario accredited Law School
  • Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical skills for complex problem solving;
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment in accordance with instructions/process; high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
