FHARA POTTINGER

PARTNER

Originally from the charming shores of Vancouver Island, Fhara attended law school at the University of New Brunswick and after graduation headed to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina for work and other adventures. This time abroad fulfilled her love of travel and instilled a passion and commitment for helping others.

Fhara settled in Thunder Bay with nothing but her dog and two suitcases in June 2006. Since then she has made Thunder Bay her home, enjoying both the spirit of the community and its natural beauty.

Fhara enjoys untangling complex problems and turning them into manageable solutions for the long term benefit of her clients. Practicing primarily in the areas of Corporate and Commercial Law, Real Estate, Wills and Estates and Estate Litigation, she is practical and thoughtful in her approach to practice, being sure to always engage with the needs and concerns of her clients.

Fhara prides herself on being able to translate the complexities of the legal system into understandable parts to allow her clients to take ownership of the process to the best of their ability. In particular, she excels working with businesses and organizations to structure themselves for success. Fhara has been involved in non-profit reorganizations and board development. She has also successfully facilitated the transfer of corporations and assets including arranging complex reorganizations.

After helming the Weilers Wills Clinic for over 10 years, Fhara has a knack for guiding her clients through the estate planning process and creating the estate plan that works for them and their family. In her Estate litigation practice, she sees all too often how poor planning can result in complex and expensive legal disputes.

Aside from her work at the firm, Fhara is invested and engaged with the local community. She is a past Chair and continued supporter of the Community Arts and Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) and a current member of the Fort William Rotary. In particular, she is heavily involved with the House Lottery project. If you listen to the radio each spring, you can hear her encouraging the community’s ongoing support for this incredible project.

In her quiet time, Fhara enjoys writing short stories, reading, and planning renovation projects around her old home.
