As of October 1, 2012, Ministry of Labour inspectors will be looking for the new poster required to be posted in the workplace.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires an employer to post certain information in the workplace. This includes a copy of the Act (section 25(2)(i)), the employer’s occupational health and safety policy (section 25(2)(k)) and when received, an annual summary of accident data of the employer provided by the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (section 12(2)).

In June 2012 the Ministry of Labour made available the poster “Health & Safety at Work – Prevention Starts Here”. This poster is required to be posted in the workplace in English and the majority language of the workplace. Ministry of Labour Inspectors will be enforcing this requirement effective October 1, 2012.

The poster identifies workers’ health and safety rights and responsibilities, the responsibilities of employers and supervisors, reminding employers they must not retaliate against workers for seeking to enforce the Act, encourages workers to get involved in health and safety and how to contact the Ministry of Labour.
